Level Block Out

It's October the month when game developers share their levels when they are in the least polished state.

So, not to fall out of this tradition , I decided to share the process of how we make parts (tiles) of our future levels for the Maze mode.

Usually, I draw a bunch of 2D plans, I doodle them whenever and wherever I can. Sometimes it can be a napkin or just an envelope from junk mail.  These simple plans save a ton of time when I get to the blocking itself.

In this video, I'm making the one in blue square.

This is just a basic layout that took me about an hour to make. However it's far from finished. Besides the most obvious visual part, it requires pathfinding nodes for AI, spawners for enemies, pick-ups, special events, triggers, doors and so on.
